How Botox Treatment Works
A gentle face lift can be found, and it’s one that definitely doesn’t involve plastic surgery. It’s called Botox and it can help women and men alike achieve a younger, more youthful appearance. In fact, Botox has become the most popular cosmetic procedure in the world. Millions of people can attest to it’s effectiveness, knowing that it is gentle, quick and subtle. However, as popular as Botox is, very few of us really know how it works.
Every time you make a facial expression you use small muscles that create a chemical called acetylcholine. Every time you furrow your brow, frown, or purse your lips, your muscles are using this chemical to create that wrinkle causing facial appearance. Here’s where Botox comes in. It stops your muscles from producing and releasing acetylcholine, and essentially paralyzes the area of your face that has been treated. The contractions that cause the appearance of wrinkles now cannot occur, and new wrinkles cannot form.
You will be glad to know that Botox has been tested and approved by the FDA as a certified treatment against wrinkles. Extensive testing has been done in independent labs, so you can be assured that it is safe for human use. When investigating and researching the possibility of having a Botox procedure, make sure to use a reputable clinic that has qualified doctors and nurses on staff. You will want to give yourself every advantage for a successful outcome.
Your relationship with your chosen clinic will become important as time goes on, since the drug does not produce permanent results. In order to maintain your new youthful look, you will need to repeat the procedure every three to six months. However, do not worry, because if you choose not to, the effect will gradually wear off and your face will revert to the way it was before treatment.
When you have made the decision to have a Botox treatment, the first appointment will serve as an introduction. You will be given information such as any anticipated risks, the cost, and results that you can expect. Then, if all is in order, you and the doctor can schedule a second appointment, which will be the actual treatment.
At that second appointment, your plastic surgeon or dermatologist will find and mark every injection point, and disinfect the area. Next, he will measure out the required amount of the drug and inject it directly into the muscle. Little or no pain or discomfort is usually experienced by patients, and you can walk out of the office and right back to work, or whatever you were doing.
After being prepped, the entire treatment has lasted only five to 10 minutes. The injected Botox will gradually do its job, and within seven to ten days, the full impact of your treatment will be realized. Your friends and family will probably comment that you are looking great, but it will not be apparent to them that you have had anything done.
So if you have a special event coming up where you would like to temporarily erase some of the signs of aging, you should investigate botox treatments. You may find it is just what you need to make you look and feel younger.
Please note: You should always consult a medical doctor or other medical professional before taking any medical advice.
