Developing The Attitude Of Gratitude
Holy alliterations, Batman…attitude of gratitude? Many people believe it manifests itself through some unbelievable stroke of luck. It may all be great and brilliant to win the lottery, own a Caddy, have the largest house on the block and hobnob with the rich and famous, but what else is lacking? In order to enjoy life, you have to develop the proper mindset. In specific, developing the attitude of gratitude.
Gratitude – What Is It?
Feeling good is simple – all you have to do is be able to take that precious moment of time to thank the Almighty Creator or the planetary alignment, depending on your beliefs, for your good fortune. Believing in Jesus Christ, Allah, Buddha or any form of Higher Power gives your life new meaning and helps you see it as a blessing. Imagine going through life like you’re a child, and every morning is Christmas.
Getting what we want – isn’t this what most people associate gratitude with? Indeed, there are a lot of individuals who see themselves being thankful only when they have all that they want – money, power, red sports car, etc. But then again there are a lot of rich people who live unhappy, miserable and ungrateful lives. There are also a lot of other people who do not have much materially, but are nonetheless filled with gratitude – where on earth does it come from?
The Human Gratitude Factory
An attitude of gratitude arises from how you look at things. This is a natural feeling that originates from how we really see the people we interact with and things that happen to us. Focus on the good and you cannot help but have a better attitude and experience of life. The recipe in making a hearty helping of gratitude is aided with the ingredients of self-encouragement and learning.
The first step is to stop and smell the roses. There are a lot of them, believe me, probably you haven’t stopped to notice them yet.
Next step – so you’re now counting your blessings, do so on a regular basis. Do not misconstrue this with ignoring the bad things. We are saying that you should see what is good and rosy until it becomes second nature to you.
I was a pessimist way back when I was a cynical young man with no religious or spiritual beliefs, but I coaxed myself to optimism by writing down everything I liked and every good thing that happened every day. Keep on using this tactic until it becomes natural for you to see life’s wonders. If you’ve ever bought a white car, and started seeing white cars all over, you know how awareness and focus can alter your perception of reality. If you do not understand how white cars play a part in living the good life, consider this – if you keep on seeking out good things, you will find yourself experiencing good things eventually.
Simple exercises like the one above train your mind with time. It will then become natural to Live The Good Life and count your blessings as you do so. You will have an attitude of gratitude.
