Have You Thought About Returning To School With the Help of a Scholarship?
Winning a scholarship can be as easy as filling out a few forms correctly and turning them in. If it was truly that easy though, why don’t more people apply? The truth is there is a lot more too it then just filling out forms and moving on.
Every scholarship is different and each has a different set of requirements on what they are looking for. Almost every scholarship is going to ask for some information about you. What are you likes and dislikes? What are your weaknesses and strengths? The questions will vary depending on the scholarship. The most commonly asked question is going to be, why should you be awarded this scholarship?
When answering the essay portion of the application, it can be tricky to figure out how honest you should be. If you are asked to list your weaknesses, it’s not a good idea to fill an entire page with things you aren’t good at. Of course, you don’t want to lie and no matter who you are, everyone has some weaknesses. It is important to put down at least a few weaknesses, but you can put a positive spin on it.
Make sure you have the qualifications. Again, this goes back to reading the application thoroughly. Not only do you need to qualify for the scholarship, but be prepared to list those qualifications. When you list your achievements or strengths, you can relate them back to the qualifications to really make you stand out.
The application is a great way to really sell yourself. You can make yourself look great by listing a bunch of accomplishments, but this is what every else will be doing and you want to be different. The key is to list your accomplishments and then relate them back to the scholarship somehow; show that you really are the best candidate.
